On the sorting line, the dexterous robotic arm firmly grips an incoming package, flips it gently to ensure the shipping label faces up, and then drops it precisely into the corresponding chute on the conveyor belt—all in one smooth, seamless motion.
Captured in CCTV's Urban Charm Record (Guangzhou, Guangdong episode), this scene shows a humanoid robot sorter at work at the China Post Guangzhou Mail Processing Center. The two-armed, human-like robot is the StarM M7, an in-house developed humanoid robot from ROBOTERA, a leading embodied AI enterprise based in Haidian.
Sorting and feeding parcels is one of the most labor-intensive and demanding links in the logistics chain. By introducing ROBOTERA's embodied AI robots to upgrade its feeding process with intelligent technology, China Post has significantly boosted operational capacity. Currently, the Guangzhou center processes an average of 6.5 million parcels daily, with a peak volume exceeding 10 million.
As a pioneer in embodied intelligence, ROBOTERA has achieved the first product-market fit (PMF) for embodied AI in the logistics industry with this deployment. Company officials told reporters that the robot meets all stability and efficiency requirements in parcel-feeding scenarios, operating at over 85% of human efficiency. It can handle up to 1,200 parcels per hour, proving its commercial viability and laying a solid foundation for embodied AI to move from "usable" to "scalable applications."
The StarM M7, now deployed at the China Post Guangzhou center is equipped with XINGDONGJIYUAN's in-house developed XHAND1 five-finger dexterous hand and the ERA-42 embodied brain. It continuously collects and learns from real-world operational data, enabling it to "get smarter and more skilled with experience" through ongoing self-evolution.
Working alongside automated systems, the StarM M7 can accurately sort parcels of different materials (soft bags, hard boxes), sizes, spec6ifications, and colors according to the required workflow. It also flips parcels to ensure labels face up before dropping them, efficiently identifies anomalies, and adapts flexibly to complex work environments—breaking the rigid limitations of traditional automation equipment.
According to the company official, in this intelligent upgrade scenario, the robot takes over high-intensity, repetitive, and harsh-environment sorting work. This frees frontline employees from heavy physical labor, allowing them to transition to more skilled, development-focused roles, aligning their career growth with the AI era and corporate transformation.
ROBOTERA's in-depth cooperation with China Post has become a model of Haidian's sci-tech innovation empowering traditional industries. It completes the "embodied robot puzzle" in China Post's intelligent upgrade, optimizing the work environment and greatly improving processing efficiency. It also helps frontline workers align their skills with the AI era, enabling end users to enjoy more efficient and stable logistics services. Most importantly, it provides a replicable and scalable "Haidian Solution" for the intelligent transformation of the national express logistics industry.
