On February 6, the world-renowned Channa-Upuli Dance Troupe from Sri Lanka staged a performance at Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU). The event was hosted by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in China to celebrate the 78th anniversary of Sri Lanka's Independence and the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Sri Lanka. Majintha Jayesinghe, Sri Lankan ambassador to China, Zhang Baojun, the Vice President of BLCU, and more than 100 faculty members and students of the university attended the event.
In his speech, Ambassador Jayesinghe expressed his gratitude to BLCU for hosting the event. He stated that it was of great significance to celebrate Independence Day in an academic institution that values dialogue and cultural exchanges, and he looked forward to enhancing the friendship between the two peoples through the medium of dance.
Zhang Baojun extended a warm welcome to the ambassador and the artists. He pointed out that the friendship between China and Sri Lanka has a long history. Adhering to the mission of mutual learning among civilizations, BLCU has cultivated many Sri Lankan students who have become young envoys of friendship between the two countries. The university will continue to deepen cooperation in education and build more exchange platforms in the future.
The Channa-Upuli Dance Troupe then presented a splendid performance. As one of the leading professional dance companies in Sri Lanka, the troupe brought to life the island nation's rich history, cultural heritage, and vibrant traditions through their superb artistry.
This event offered faculty and students of BLCU a close-up experience of Sri Lanka's traditional art, injecting new vitality into the people-to-people bonds between China and Sri Lanka.
